tracing shapes: workbook 5.1

tracing basic shapes - direction

Why tracing activities are important

Tracing activities stimulate eye - hand coordination and visual-motor integration. When we follow (trace) dotted lines, our eyes simultaneously follow and compare evolving lines with original shapes. Our brains than initiate hand and fingers micro-movements to correct the direction of the line. This process strengthen visual-motor integration and fine-motor hand and fingers movements control. When tracing tasks involve the direction of drawing, children’s attention focus on yet another important aspect of graphomotor skills.

Worksheets and activities in this workbook

Activities in this workbook are designed for strengthening visual-motor integration by tracing dotted or dashed geometric shapes. Template shapes differ in size. In some activities dotted shapes are accompanied with outer or inner shapes intended to help children while drawing. Tasks difficulty increase throughout the workbook by decreasing size of shapes.
