SHAPE

CONSTANCY

Activities in this section include finishing unfinished shapes, and tracing.

When children draw missing parts of shapes, their eyes visually guide the fine movements of their hands and fingers.

When they follow dotted lines with pencils or with other drawing tools, their eyes simultaneously follow and compare emerging lines with original ones.

As their brains compare their drawings with original shapes, they initiate micro-movements of our hands and fingers to correct emerging shapes.

Why these activities are important

Tasks involving finishing unfinished shapes and tracing shapes play an important role in the acquisition of space concepts. These activities stimulate eye-hand coordination, visual-motor integration, and fine-motor hand and fingers movements control.
